Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

The mission of the City of Boston Property Management Department (PMD) is to manage, maintain, repair, and provide security for the City's municipal buildings including City Hall and Faneuil Hall; to preserve the useful life of City facilities and to reduce operating costs through effective preventative maintenance measures.

Under the direction of the Senior Administrative Assistant (Manager of Security Systems), the Senior Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing security program monitoring operations, including supervising, training, and scheduling Shift Supervisors and Senior Computer Operators.


The Senior Shift Supervisor is the Department’s subject matter expert in monitoring intrusion alarms, security camera network, and access control systems.

Trains, evaluates, and supervises the Shift Supervisors and Senior Computer Operators.

Ensures that all Shift Supervisors and Senior Computer Operators are certified in performing essential functions of their positions.

Develops performance standards and assists with performance evaluations for Shift Supervisors and Senior Computer Operators; enforces City personnel policies; and oversees scheduling of overtime shifts.

Oversees Department security measures, including monitoring of intrusion alarms, and operations and of security camera network and access control program.

Assists Senior Administrative Assistant (Operations) with the maintenance of logs and preparation of annual and other reports.

Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

High School Graduate or equivalent.

At least three (3) years of full time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the security field is required, preferably in the monitoring or maintenance of alarm/CCTV systems and related equipment, including intrusion alarms and security camera networks, of which two (2) years must have been in a supervisory capacity.

Knowledge of access control systems and video monitoring systems preferred.

Knowledge of law enforcement dispatching for intrusion alarms preferred.

Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts Driver’s License.

Knowledge of personal computer programs such as WORD, EXCEL, ACCESS, etc.

Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
