Maintenance Aide

The Arlington Housing Authority seeks qualified candidates for the full-time position of Maintenance Aide. This position performs semi-skilled, diversified duties including custodial services, and building and grounds maintenance, and related work in connection with regular, routine, and emergency repair across all Arlington Housing Authority properties.
Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours/week), In-person
FLSA: Non-Exempt / Hourly
Hourly Rate: $34.81
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Performs a wide range of semi-skilled custodial services and building and grounds maintenance at an apprentice level including supporting repairs on plumbing, electrical, windows, doors, doorframes, locks, and mailboxes in accordance with local building code.
- Assumes responsibility, under the direction of the Senior Working Foreman, for the safe, sanitary, attractive maintenance of grounds (trimming, mowing, planting) and common areas within assigned areas.
- Performs heavy cleaning and refurbishment of vacant units, occupied units, and all common areas.
- Independently completes work orders appropriately in accordance with department standards and skill level to address repairs and general maintenance and upkeep of assigned areas.
- Reviews and checks completed work to ensure it conforms to instructions and Authority standards; ensures supplies, materials, tools, and equipment are accounted for and properly stored after use at assigned areas.
- Supports emergency and routine work order fulfillment including supporting annual inspections.
- May be assigned on a permanent, or other basis, to perform supportive services at multiple sites either periodically or according to an established schedule of work under the guidance of senior maintenance staff.
- Mandatory participation in the On Call program; Mandatory participation in the Snow & Ice program including plowing, snow blowing, shoveling, sanding, and salting.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required or any equivalent combination of training and experience that would demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position.
- Minimum of one (1) year of related experience.
- Valid driver's license required.
- OSHA 10-Hour Certification upon hire or within one year of hire.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work with external contractors, tenants, and their guests in a courteous, compassionate, and helpful manner.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound professional judgment and problem-solving skills to support the team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to work on long-term solutions.
