Diesel Mechanic

Pay: $40 to $50 per hour
Schedule: Full-time, day shift (approximately 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.)

Barrett Tree Service East is an employee-owned tree and lawn care company serving the greater Boston area. We are adding a third mechanic to support our growing fleet and reduce downtime across daily operations.
This role is primarily shop-based and focused on maintaining and repairing heavy-duty trucks and equipment, including bucket trucks, chippers, loaders, and trailers. The work centers on diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostics. Small engine work is handled by another team member and is not a focus of this role.
What you’ll do

Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on diesel and gas-powered equipment

Perform advanced diagnostics using computer-based systems, including DEF systems

Handle major repairs such as transmission work and complex troubleshooting

Perform welding and metal fabrication as needed

Complete routine and preventive maintenance to keep the fleet reliable

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment

Communicate repair status clearly with management

Work independently while supporting the broader mechanic and operations team
What we’re looking for

3 to 5 years of experience as a diesel or heavy truck mechanic

Strong working knowledge of hydraulics and diesel systems

Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment independently

Welding experience with steel and aluminum

Comfort using modern diagnostic tools and computer systems

Valid Massachusetts driver’s license; ability to obtain a Class A CDL after hire

Ability to lift 75 to 100 pounds and meet physical demands of the role

Reliable, detail-oriented, and team-focused
Preferred but not required

Class A or B CDL

Experience with Caterpillar or International engines

Hoisting license or similar equipment certifications
