JOB DESCRIPTION: Master Electrician

Classification: Hourly – Maintenance Department
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor / Plant Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY
The Master Electrician is the highest-level electrical classification within the Maintenance Department and serves as the plant’s primary authority on electrical systems, predictive technologies, and safety compliance. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and perform complex troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance of power distribution, motor control, and automation systems.
- Direct and oversee the plant’s Arc Flash and Electrical Safety Program, ensuring compliance with OSHA 1910.331–335 and NFPA 70E standards.
- Verify and maintain Arc Flash labeling, risk assessments, and PPE compliance across all electrical equipment.
- Supervise the use and interpretation of predictive technologies including vibration analysis, infrared thermography, ultrasonic testing, and power quality monitoring.
- Analyze predictive maintenance data to identify trends and recommend corrective or preventive actions.
- Coordinate with planning, engineering, and supervision to scope, plan, and schedule major electrical work.
- Specify and procure electrical materials, components, and equipment to meet design and reliability requirements.
- Manage CMMS data quality, ensuring asset-level accuracy of work orders, parts usage, and system feedback.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) efforts for electrical systems.
- Mentor, train, and qualify electricians at all levels in safety, troubleshooting, and predictive maintenance practices.
- Collaborate with engineering and management to integrate reliability data into long-term capital and improvement plans.
- Ensure full compliance with PPE, LOTO, confined space, and energized work standards.
- Represent electrical maintenance in planning meetings and cross-functional improvement projects.
- Promote and uphold safety culture and continuous improvement throughout maintenance operations.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Master-level proficiency in power distribution, automation, and control systems.
- Expert understanding of Arc Flash analysis, NFPA 70E, OSHA 1910.333–335, and electrical safety program implementation.
- Proficiency in predictive maintenance technologies and data-driven reliability improvement.
- Advanced CMMS and asset management knowledge.
- Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring abilities.
- Capable of reading and interpreting advanced electrical and control schematics.
- Skilled in equipment specification, procurement, and vendor coordination.
- Ability to train others in electrical safety, reliability, and troubleshooting methods.

QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required; technical degree, journeyman, or master electrician license preferred.
- Minimum 5–8 years of industrial electrical experience with demonstrated mastery of systems and safety programs.
- Proven leadership in predictive maintenance, Arc Flash program management, and reliability improvement.
- Current certifications in Arc Flash, LOTO, confined space, and related safety programs required.
- Completion of all Electrician 1–3 requirements and documented skill check-offs.

ADVANCEMENT & PROGRAM ROLE
- Represents the terminal classification within the Electrical progression program.
- Responsible for guiding electrical training, program development, and safety auditing.
- Supports long-term planning, reliability improvement, and vendor management.
- May act as a lead during major shutdowns, project installations, and system upgrades.

NOTES
- Governed by the USW Local #2936 bargaining agreement.
- Continued compliance with all OSHA and NFPA 70E requirements is mandatory.
- Master Electricians serve as plant authorities for electrical reliability and safety practices.
