The Watch Engineer will perform a number of duties, including: operating and maintaining a low-pressure boiler plant, chiller plant, air handlers and all associated equipment; monitoring computer readings and making required adjustments to maintain climate control in all areas of the Museum; starting up, operating and/or shutting down the plant; monitoring and operating boilers, feed pumps, water pumps, fans, compressors and other auxiliary equipment; controlling flow of elements according to conditions as monitored by computer to maintain desired climate in various areas of the Museum; recording temperatures, humidity, and fuel consumption at various sites; maintaining boiler room log; reading and recording utility (gas, water, electric and oil) meters; disassembling pumps, compressors and other units as necessary for scheduled maintenance; cleaning, repairing or replacing parts as necessary; as required, using machine tools for fabricating, welding with gas, replacing or applying insulation; disconnecting, removing and replacing motors, replacing or installing piping; carrying out scheduled preventive maintenance program as directed; working from charts, specifications, manuals, written and verbal instruction; using tools and equipment such as staging, lathe, drill press, hand power tools, sheet metal tools, gauges, and computers; responding to all emergencies: fire alarms, floods, leaks, temperature and humidity alarms, etc.; writing incident reports.
Requirements include: 3 to 5 years of watch engineering experience and related training; Boiler License required; HVAC License preferred; strong computer skills; will be required to stay abreast of the latest developments in the field.
