Facilities General Repair Technician

We are looking for a Facilities General Repair Technician / Carpenter to support daily operations, maintenance and planning of all general repairs at the brand new MathWorks Lakeside Campus in Natick, MA.  Candidate must be comfortable working in a team environment and welcome collaboration and have strong communication skills.  This position requires a combination of hands on  carpentry skills, an ability to manage vendors and contractors and a true desire to provide outstanding customer service.  Although this position is standard shift, it will include some participating when required on 24/7 coverage to support off hour emergency calls. There may be occasions where you will also need to assist other in-house facilities staff (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing).


1. Facility Maintenance & Repairs:

Coordinate with the Facilities Manager (FM) and others to plan and execute general repairs and maintenance.  Types of repairs include but are not limited to: drywall and general carpentry/millwork; doors, hardware, and window repairs; and minor repairs to flooring, base and ceilings
Assist other in-house facilities staff (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing) as needed
Track work progress using facilities computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
Respond to and address work orders submitted by staff.  If required, escalate issues to FM and/or request help from other members of the team or outside vendors 

 2. Routine Tours  

 Actively look for and address issues on campus
 Complete scheduled daily tours as assigned by FM
 Identify and document facilities issues found on tours and resolve or escalate to FM as appropriate  

 3. Vendor Management: 

Schedule vendor visits to the campus as necessary
Support vendor work, solicit proposals, get PO's approved, monitor vendor progress and results, and review work order for completion/resolution
Assist in monitoring snow removal and landscape vendors as required

 4. On-Call Program:

Participate in Facilities Team on call rotation
When on call, respond to alarms and issues as necessary.  Response types will include: phone, on-line access or site visits

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4 years of professional work experience is required. Apprentice licensure is required.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Facilities or construction background with several years of experience
  • General knowledge of construction trade, facility systems, equipment, operations and maintenance
  • Ability to work independently, proactively organizing and multitasking
  • Ability to recognize and troubleshoot facilities maintenance issues
  • Ability to work within a collaborative team environment
  • Strong customer service skills to interact with staff & vendors
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Experience with CMMS a plus
  • Valid Drivers license and transportation
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
