Job Description:
The Technical Specialist will perform master/journeyman-level work in the start-up, troubleshooting, modification, inspection, repair, maintenance, and service of building automation and control systems. The end result of each assignment will be to ensure proper operation of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment included in the automation system installation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are typical for this position. The employee may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1.Participate in kickoff/ turnover meeting with on assigned projects. Expectation is for the individual to attain a full working knowledge of the assigned project
2.Coordinate with the project manager, electrical subcontractors, equipment startup technicians and other trades.
3.Communicate daily or as required with the Project Manager assigned to the specific project.
4.Responsible for the daily planning of workflow for startup activities for self and others under his/her lead to ensure that startup and commissioning tasks are completed on defined deadlines.
5.Responsible for efficiently managing the commissioning labor hours on assigned projects.
6.Coordinate the delivery and pickup of required job materials (ladder, gang boxes, field materials, etc.), as needed, with the Project Manager in a manner to maximize field production.
7.Verify that all control-point wiring has been correctly installed and terminated, sensors have been calibrated, and field devices operate correctly.
8.Install certain control components not installed by other contractors, as needed. (May include actuators, relays, and sensors.)
9.Field modify DDC local control panels as required for expansion and engineering changes.
10.Perform point-to-point verification tests, field operational tests of the control systems, and make any necessary control system corrections to ensure that the systems functions as described in the Sequence of Operations.
11.Monitor and adjust control loops to ensure stable operation of the system.
12.Responsible for reviewing the graphic screens for accuracy and functionality as needed.
13.Identify control logic issues and make appropriate modifications, as necessary.
14.Continually update and maintain verification and operational test checklists and punch list log.
15.Continually update and maintain project’s master field set of documentation (including submittal) so that accurate As-Built drawings can be produced.
16.Lead 3rd party commissioning activities for a building automation system and complete commissioning documentation.
17.Conduct site-specific training for the owner/operator on the control system.
18.Respond to customer warranty calls (on-site, on-line or via telephone support) – normal working hours or after hours, as needed.
19.Conduct job site final walk and/or final completion for systems to service job turnover.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

The following are the minimum level of qualifications needed for an individual to perform the essential functions of the position.

1.Associate’s degree in a related engineering field, or HVAC & refrigeration technology field OR high school diploma or equivalent with two (2) years of experience in the HVAC and refrigeration technology field.
2.Solid computer & typing skills and be able to use Microsoft Windows 7, internet browser program (such as Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, etc.), Microsoft Excel, & Word.
3.Skilled in using hand and power tools such as: digital multi-meters, amp probes, wire strippers, screw drivers, pipe wrenches, cordless drills, etc.
4.Good mathematical skills, including the ability to perform basic mathematical functions (such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and an aptitude for higher level functions (such as algebra, geometry, or trigonometry)
5.Basic electronics knowledge
6.Analytical ability for problem solving
7.Record keeping skills
8.Skill in written communication to understand written and verbal information (including instructions, descriptions, and ideas) and to express such information verbally and in writing so that others will understand.
9.Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with business contacts and coworkers in a businesslike, customer service-oriented manner.
Working Environment:
1.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is sometimes exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outdoor weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock.
2.The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold and extreme heat.
3.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
4.This position requires working outdoors, in mechanical/equipment rooms and possible extreme weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment.
Physical Requirements:

The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
