Annually, Covanta's modern Energy-from-Waste facilities safely and securely convert approximately 20 million tons of waste into 9 million megawatt hours of clean renewable electricity and almost 9 billion pounds of steam that are sold to a variety of industries. Working under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor and the direction of the Control Room Operator, the individual will be responsible for operation and inspection of all power plant systems including air pollution control equipment, the operation of refuse cranes, and conducting boiler chemistry testing. An Auxiliary Operator will also be responsible for the operation and inspection of various boiler plant auxiliary equipment including, pumps, fans, air compressors, electrical devices and conveyors.
Three years previous experience with high pressure boilers and electric generating equipment or formal technical or utility training, a high school diploma or equivalent, an active Massachusetts Fireman’s License (3rd Class Engineer’s License is preferred), and the ability to obtain a Massachusetts 1C, 2C, 3A Hoisting License within a year.
All Auxiliary Operators must be able to work in all locations within the plant, under extremes of hot and cold, and in areas of dust, noise and wet conditions. Must be able to climb onto heavy equipment and work in heights, lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs. and other manual labor to including pushing, pulling, sweeping and shoveling. Must be able to work overtime as needed including nights, weekends, and holidays with minimum notice.
