Objective: This course is designed to provide students with the skills and understanding of HVAC Building Controls as well as Motors & Controls of all other systems.
Description: This program is designed to help the HVAC Technician, Electrician or the Facilities Maintenance tech understand and troubleshoot all modern state of the art building systems. Our lab includes a fully functional building ventilation system with true hot water and chilled water capacity.You will learn how to read and completely understand Ladder Diagrams. You will commission an A.C. Drive on a functional fan and control a VAV. box. You will convert pneumatic controls to a fully functional energy management system (EMS). Using the EMS system, you will learn how to take advantage of money saving opportunities such as scheduling of units, reset schedules, optimum start, and night setback.
After completion of this course you will be able to apply what you have learned to upgrade HVAC systems to the latest EMS technology.
Outline:
- “Hands on” pneumatic & DDC system calibration
- Basic electricity and control theory
- Understand and wire electrical components and relay logic
- Troubleshoot electrical controls using ladder diagrams
- Energy management systems (EMS) architecture
- Use variable speed drives to control in lab HVAC systems
- Savings opportunities using the latest EMS systems
- Controls and solid state electrical systems
