1B Hoisting Operator

Objective:  The 1B license allows candidates to operate Boom Trucks and Extension Boom with Cables

Description:   Hoisting licenses are required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Safety to operate Mobile Hydraulic Cranes and numerous heavy duty machines in construction and landscaping work.

Outline:

·        General:  Operator qualifications, load lifting, outrigger safety

·        520 CMR 6.00 Hoisting Machinery, special requirement for cranes

·        Basic Hydraulics:  System diagram, components, trouble shooting

·        Wire Rope clips, installation, drums, sheaves, wedge sockets, uncoiling

·        Mechanical Advantage:  Multiple & single part lines, reeving

·        Work Site Selection:  Ground conditions, weather, overhead clearances

·        Stability:  Outriggers, positioning, blocking

·        Placards:  Danger, caution, warning, instructional

·        Controls:  Boom, telescope, outrigger, hoist, rotation

·        Load Charts:  Operating radius & ranges, boom angle & length, gross/net/wire rope capacities

·        Safety Devices:  Anti-two block, overload protection, barricades, outrigger alarms

·        Load Handling:  Weight, operating radius, structural limitations, proper rigging

·        Optional Equipment:  Load blocks, boom attached personal platforms, jibs (installation, load charts, stowing)

·        Inspections:  Machine inspection requirements, operator daily inspection, periodic inspection

·        Transporting the Crane:  General notes, outriggers, rated load, securing the load hook, road height
