Objective: After successfully completing this course, students are prepared to take the written and oral State License exam.
Description: Second Class Firemen are employed in hospitals, schools, utility plants, manufacturing plants and numerous other establishments that use high pressure boilers. Once you pass the exam you can “operate any boiler or boilers under the engineer or fireman in charge”. (Chapter 146 of the General Laws)
Outline:
License Law Requirements – operation and maintenance
Drums – steam traps
Fire & Water Tube Boilers – inspections super heaters
Pumps – types of economizers, pump operations
Air preheaters – feed water
Shells – feed water heaters
Braces & Stays – combustion control
Heating Surface – Boiler rating
Prerequisites: Students must be eighteen years or older.
